Investigators believe that he was able to convince the girls to get into his car. Bunday targeted young girls between 11 years old and 20. Thomas Bundayīunday was a member of the Air Force, serving at a base in Alaska. In his 1990 book, Fred Hatfield claimed to have killed Klutuk, though this report is disputed. A body assumed to be Klutuk’s was found, though he died of natural causes. Though a manhunt was launched for Klutuk, he was never caught. It’s believed that he killed 20 people during his time. Most he shot to death with a gun, but there are reports that he also used an ax to slay his victims. Whenever he caught someone intruding on his property, they would be killed. He was said to be a trapper who was fiercely protective of his land. The legend of Klutuk stretches back to the start of the 20th Century. He was eventually caught in 1984 and died in prison in 2014. It’s estimated that he killed between 17 to 21 people, and Hansen raped over 31 women. This disturbing criminal was able to continue to commit these crimes for years without being caught. Using his plane, he would fly them to a remote area, and “let them go” after which he would hunt them down and kill them, typically with a hunting rifle. Then, they would be handcuffed and dragged into his car. Hansen would find young prostitutes, paying them to come to his house. Though he was popular with his neighbors, he harbored dark secrets. He moved to Alaska in 1967 with his wife and two children. It’s believed this was revenge for his time in high school, where he was often bullied and ostracized. One of his first crimes was burning down a school bus depot. Robert Christian Hansen is one of the most prolific killers in Alaskan history.

3/27/2023 0 Comments Atomic habits worksheets pdfIf you eat a chocolate bar every morning, acknowledge it, almost as if you were watching someone else. Don’t praise yourself for your successes. Observe your thoughts and actions without judgment or internal criticism. The goal is to simply notice what is actually going on. Where to Go From HereĪs you create your Habits Scorecard, there is no need to change anything at first. Habits that conflict with your desired identity are typically bad. If you’re still having trouble determining how to rate a particular habit, here is a question I like to use: “Does this behavior help me become the type of person I wish to be? Does this habit cast a vote for or against my desired identity?” Habits that reinforce your desired identity are usually good. Smoking a cigarette may reduce stress right now (that’s how it’s serving you), but it’s not a healthy long-term behavior. Generally speaking, good habits will have net positive outcomes. When completing your Habits Scorecard, however, you can categorize your habits by how they will benefit you in the long run. All habits serve you in some way-even the bad ones-which is why you repeat them. The labels “good habit” and “bad habit” are slightly inaccurate. Scoring your habits can be a bit more complex for another reason as well. It all depends on what you’re working toward. For someone who is trying to bulk up and add muscle, the same behavior might be a good habit. For someone who is trying to lose weight, eating a bagel with peanut butter every morning might be a bad habit. The marks you give to a particular habit will depend on your situation and your goals. If it is a neutral habit, write “=”.įor example, the list above might look like this: Once you have a full list, look at each behavior, and ask yourself, “Is this a good habit, a bad habit, or a neutral habit?” If it is a good habit, write “+” next to it. Here’s a sample of where your list might start: To create your own Habits Scorecard, start by making a list of your daily habits. That’s the origin of the Habits Scorecard, which is a simple exercise you can use to become more aware of your behavior. We need a “point-and-call” system for our personal lives. This helps explain why the consequences of bad habits can sneak up on us. One of our greatest challenges in changing habits is maintaining awareness of what we are actually doing. Many of our failures in performance are largely attributable to a lack of self-awareness. We’re so used to doing what we’ve always done that we don’t stop to question whether it’s the right thing to do at all. We assume that the next time will be just like the last. And when we’ve done something a thousand times before, we begin to overlook things. The more automatic a behavior becomes, the less likely we are to consciously think about it. Whenever we are preparing to walk out the door for a trip, she verbally calls out the most essential items in her packing list. 3 Because the train operators must use their eyes, hands, mouth, and ears, they are more likely to notice problems before something goes wrong. Pointing-and-Calling is so effective because it raises the level of awareness from a nonconscious habit to a more conscious level. 1 The MTA subway system in New York City adopted a modified version that is “point-only,” and “within two years of implementation, incidents of incorrectly berthed subways fell 57 percent.” 2 Pointing-and-Calling Your Habits Pointing-and-Calling reduces errors by up to 85 percent and cuts accidents by 30 percent. It seems silly, but it works incredibly well. This process, known as Pointing-and-Calling, is a safety system designed to reduce mistakes. Before each train departs, staff members will point along the edge of the platform and declare, “All clear!” Every detail is identified, pointed at, and named aloud. Out on the platform, other employees are performing similar actions. When it’s time to leave, the operator will point at the timetable and state the time. When the train approaches a signal, the operator will point at it and say, “Signal is green.” As the train pulls into and out of each station, the operator will point at the speedometer and call out the exact speed. If you ever find yourself riding a train in Tokyo, you’ll notice that the conductors have a peculiar habit.Īs each operator runs the train, they proceed through a ritual of pointing at different objects and calling out commands. The Japanese railway system is regarded as one of the best in the world. This article is an excerpt from Atomic Habits, my New York Times bestselling book. 3/27/2023 0 Comments The sun origin secretsOsiris was a kind and wise ruler who taught humans agriculture and civilization. And by the way, humankind happened out of the tears of his eyes. In turn, these two birthed the Principles of life, namely Osiris the Perfect Being, who eventually would rule over the rest of the world-which Ra was busy creating by naming the elements. On a Primeval hill, Ra created out of himself the first gods, Shu (Dryness and Air), and his partner Tefnut (Humidity), who would engender other gods to complete the Cosmos: Geb the Earth god and Nut the Sky goddess. An island emerged from the water to support this divinity, who manifested itself in the form of Ra, the sun god of Egypt. When the breath of life was strong and ready, the entity called Atum decided it was time for Creation to begin. The origin story of how Ra spawned all that is known is both fascinating and illuminating:īefore creation, according to Egyptian mythology, only Darkness embraced the Primeval Ocean out of which life would come. While its unexcavated remnants lie under centuries of fields and settlements, the place remains a symbolic monument to Ra, the greatest god of ancient Egypt. This city, later called Heliopolis (city of the sun-god) by the Greeks and later Ain-Shams (eye of the sun) by the Arabs, is probably one of the oldest religious sites in the world. "Rather than asking why Teotihuacan collapsed, it is more interesting to ask why it lasted so long," he says.In a northwestern quarter of suburban Cairo, covered by 20 meters of earth, development and the lost echoes of history, is ancient Iwn, the city that witnessed the creation of the universe. It's unclear why Teotihuacan collapsed one theory is that poorer classes carried out an internal uprising against the elite.įor Cowgill, who says more studies are needed to understand the lives of the poorer classes that inhabited Teotihuacan, the mystery lies not as much in who built the city or in why it fell. Since 2003, archaeologist Sergio Gomez has been working to access new parts of the complex, and has only recently reached the end of a tunnel that could hold a king's tomb. Inside the temple, researchers found buried animals and bodies, with heads that had been lobbed off, all thought to be offerings to gods or sanctification for successive layers of the pyramid as it was built. It was there, beneath layers of dirt and stone, that researchers realized the awe-inspiring craftsmanship of Teotihuacan's architects was matched by a cultural penchant for brutality and human and animal sacrifice. The main excavations, performed by Professors Saburo Sugiyama of Aichi Prefectural University in Japan and Rubén Cabrera, a Mexican archaeologist, have been at the Pyramid of the Moon. One theory says an erupting volcano forced a wave of immigrants into the Teotihuacan valley and that those refugees either built or bolstered the city. No matter its principal builders, evidence shows that Teotihuacan hosted a patchwork of cultures including the Maya, Mixtec, and Zapotec. Some scholars say the Totonac culture was responsible. Others note that the Toltec peaked far later than Teotihuacan's zenith, undermining that theory. Scholars once pointed to the Toltec culture. But only some portions have been excavated. Who Built It?Ĭowgill says the site's visible surface remains have all been mapped in detail. Oddly, Teotihuacan, which contains a massive central road (the Street of the Dead) and buildings including the Temple of the Sun and the Temple of the Moon, has no military structures-though experts say the military and cultural wake of Teotihuacan was heavily felt throughout the region. comparable to the largest pyramids of Egypt." "It had thousands of residential compounds and scores of pyramid-temples. "It was the largest city anywhere in the Western Hemisphere before the 1400s," Cowgill says. It covered 8 square miles (21 square kilometers) and supported a population of a hundred thousand, according to George Cowgill, an archaeologist at Arizona State University and a National Geographic Society grantee. But it was the Aztec, descending on the abandoned site, no doubt falling awestruck by what they saw, who gave its current name: Teotihuacan.Ī famed archaeological site located fewer than 30 miles (50 kilometers) from Mexico City, Teotihuacan reached its zenith between 100 B.C. It was built by hand more than a thousand years before the swooping arrival of the Nahuatl-speaking Aztec in central Mexico. It was massive, one of the first great cities of the Western Hemisphere. 3/27/2023 0 Comments Aquarium automatic feederTerms and conditions of this offer are subject to change at the sole discretion of PetSmart. When I finally had a chance to compose myself and look at what is happening I smiled widely. By noon we were up and running, albeit with some minor issues that would be fixed the next day. Focusing on the work at hand we managed to get one station operational, then another one, then the TV for the trailers. I absolutely hate Murphy and his freaking law.Īn amazing number of things went wrong and in a nutshell, despite getting there early we were still trying to finish the booth when people flooded the room. So we hesitantly went to sleep, hoping everything would run smoothly the next morning. Half past midnight we still had a lot of stuff to do but I decided not to pull an all-nighter, we would need the rest. We got everything to our booth and worked as long as jet lag allowed us to. and the show was starting the next morning! What I do know is this: it was Thursday night when we had everything in our possession. I remember raiding the local Fry's and Best Buy to purchase computers, controllers and monitors, ordering furniture from Amazon, renting stands and ordering graphics for the booth. The indie way baby!! We found our cute little corner booth, briefly discussed screen placements, took another stroll downstairs and then left. Almost nobody working, most of the booths still empty. We hastily took the escalator to the 6th floor, home of most indies and immediately felt at ease. People working everywhere, booths almost done. Right as we turned the corner Ubisoft was lifting a monstrosity of a vinyl banner for their upcoming Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Behemoth had a huge space, unpacking gorgeous cabinets that would be their gamestations. Let me tell you, it was like a video game fairytale.Īll of the heavy hitters were on the 4th floor, already hard at work building some mighty impressive booths. to collect our badges of course! We accidentaly spent a couple of hours walking around the show. We were really here! We hastily checked in and run to the convention center. We landed on Tuesday after a long and tiring flight, with a huge smile on our faces. And it was amazing! This is the story of this adventurous trip. This year we decided to make the super long trip to Seattle to present ourselves at one of the biggest indie game tradeshows on this planet, PAX Prime 2015. 3/27/2023 0 Comments Quicken vs moneydance for macAccess to dedicated financial advisors and an investment committee with the larger plans.Access to financial advisors who will study your finances and develop a plan for you.You can create a budget, track investments and plan your retirement. You can connect mortgages, loans, credit cards, savings, and 401ks in one place and get a complete view of your money. You also get advice from real financial advisors here. On Sundays, too, the MTA delivered, with trains running every eight minutes in the late afternoons, getting people home promptly before the week began again. That’s 11 hours of frequent, useful A service. Similarly, on Saturdays, going northbound, service every eight minutes began at 6:30 a.m. Let’s look at a few examples to see how these systemwide service cuts have contributed to the diminished utility of the system.īack in 2008, the midday A train came as frequently as every six minutes during on weekdays. These service cuts are especially painful for people who work outside conventional office hours, including New Yorkers doing shifts on nights and weekends. Off-peak service still hasn’t been restored to its former levels, so more people are riding the subway at times when the MTA is running less service than it provided 10 years ago. It’s a logical way to allocate resources when budgets are tight, but those times are also when subway ridership has recently seen significant growth. While Albany enacted an MTA funding package in 2009 to prevent a total collapse of service, the agency balanced its budget with a round of deep service cuts in 2010.įor subways, the cuts mainly affected off-peak service. The service reductions mainly stem from the financial crisis of 2008, when MTA revenues nosedived. But one simple factor doesn’t get mentioned enough: During off-peak hours, the MTA doesn’t run as many trains as it used to. There are a number of culprits, including the failure to adequately maintain and upgrade track and signals, and the profusion of unnecessary timers slowing down trains. During rush hours, crowding and delays have reached crisis proportions, and off-peak, the wait for a train can seem interminable. Subway service today is atrocious, that much is clear. 3/27/2023 0 Comments Race driver grid codes ps3CECH-2000A Product name: PlayStation 3Product code: CECH-2000A (Charcoal.
